3 REASONS TO CHOOSE LIFESTYLE NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY

DETAILS MATTER:

Unlike posed newborn photography, lifestyle newborn photography is not just about the sleeping babies, curled and molded into baskets; but it’s about the interactions and the love the parents feel for their new arrival. These sessions are where you can really get a true sense of family in their home. So I capture away those details. From an intimate hug between the mother and the baby to a lovely crib hanging that got gifted from a family friend.

YOUR HOME AS OUR BACKDROP:

One of the reasons I love lifestyle newborn sessions over the posed ones is I have the whole house as my backdrop instead of just a seamless paper. This gives me so much more room to work with! My job is to capture memories and I can’t think of a better place to capture those precious memories than baby's first home.
 

NO TIME FRAME:

When you schedule a lifestyle newborn session, the session can take place anytime within the first 7 weeks after the baby is born. Because the sessions are focused on interaction, the baby does not need to be under 10 days old in order to ensure their sleepy, squishy bodies can maintain curled positions. I’ve had some of my favorite sessions with babies 4 weeks and older.

"A day in the life of the Thomas family… Ha ha let's be real I was sweating profusely, my husband was on his lunch break, Magnolia woke up with goopy eyes and the house was a mess 5 mins before Tumay arrived.  But Colbie, hundred percent herself except she would've preferred her frisbee be in every shot.

But honestly it felt so good to take a shower and put real clothes on. I love the way Tumay helped us capture these photos that portray our happy family and importantly, our first daughter Chloe was perfectly remembered in this session. We will forever cherish these days and we will have these photos to remind us of this special time." Jenn Thomas

Caroline and Bryan reached out to me looking for a family photographer that could capture not only their maternity session but also the arrival of their son Jack. We decided to shoot their maternity session in the Presidio where Caroline and Bryan got married. The Golden Gate Bridge and Park Presidio made a wonderful backdrop for their photoshoot and was a great choice to highlight their years in San Francisco.

It was such an honor to document this wonderful couple welcome their son Jack. He was an alert, happy and a curious little model who loved the spotlight. This was such a fun shoot and the love between the three of them was so natural that it was easy to capture. 

Caroline and Bryan's life has forever been changed by this incredible gift and they thank their lucky stars! I know that they will cherish these belly to baby photographs always!

Jenn, Magnolia & Chloe

“Hoping for a rainbow. A rainbow baby is a baby that is born alive after a loss. We lost our first baby girl, Chloe Rose at 33 weeks gestation she was 4lbs 14oz and 18inches long. She had daddy’s golden skin, mommy’s wavy hair, daddy’s surfer feet and mommy’s button nose — more beautiful than I could have ever imagined.

So they say every pregnancy is different and for me, this couldn’t be more true. With Chloe I was that overly happy, go-lucky, so excited and sometimes annoying pregnant lady. With this pregnancy I have felt disconnected and terrified. When Tumay and I started talking about taking some photos I was very hesitant. After a few weeks of contemplating the idea and almost canceling more than once, I had a moment of clarity. I realized I needed to do this, for this baby. This baby is here now, I don’t know what tomorrow will bring but today I have a living baby growing inside me and I will always have her as my second daughter and Chloe’s little sister.

Before we started taking the photos I expressed to Tumay that it was important to me to incorporate Chloe in the photos. We decided on taking some photos of the necklace that I wear everyday that has an imprint of Chloe’s thumb print. I now have a picture of me and my girls all together embracing my love for them both.

For me these photos capture my family, our story, our loss and our new life. I pray everyday that we will bring this baby into this world breathing and healthy. I am grateful for the opportunity brought with these images to bring light and beauty through our journey for me and my family.

I felt so blessed and humbled when my dearest friends Lalena and Ryan asked me to photograph their engagement session. They even traveled all the way to San Francisco for it!

I am blogging all the way from Istanbul today. It's cold. It's snowing... but this beach session from San Diego is keeping me warm by just looking at it!  As some of you know, I've lived in San Diego for over ten years and it's where I call my second home. My goal is to have many more San Diego family portrait sessions in 2016...

We decided on an early morning beach session for Lauren and Apollo's family portrait session. Luckily the weather was perfect and the light was incredible! Hello San Diego in January!!

Lauren is one of those super single mothers who somehow manages to work full-time, raise a child and still find time to keep a healthy lifestyle. Such a beautiful and strong woman! She amazes me.. Apollo was a clever, humorous, and adventurous little model. His love for his mother was so adoring and boundless. It was so special to document. I hope that they will keep and cherish these wonderful memories forever.
